We at the Vanguard Incarcerated Press (VIP) are dedicated to providing a platform for incarcerated voices to break free of prison walls, uncensored and unfiltered—and we need your help.

Who We Are: The VIP is committed to empowering writers behind bars. Under the Davis Vanguard, we release a monthly newsletter featuring hard-hitting stories from incarcerated journalists, selected and edited by a team of incarcerated editors. We distribute our copies to almost 200 incarcerated individuals nationwide. And we're not only a publisher: we empower those living behind bars to become true journalists, equipping them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to shine a light on the realities of prison life and the criminal justice system. Incarcerated individuals become stakeholders at every level of our operation.

The VIP mission is to expose injustices, challenge the status quo, and advocate for systemic change and prison abolition. By publishing incarcerated writing, providing professional training, and connecting our writers to the larger journalist community, we strive to empower incarcerated voices to become catalysts for transformation within the carceral state and society at large.
